Embracing the Digital Wave: My Evolving Journey in Sales

I’m Ajay U Joseph, currently working as a Sales Manager in Northern Nigeria, with over three years of experience in the FMCG sector—specifically in the biscuit and detergent segments. My career has taken me across vibrant markets in Kerala, India, to the bustling trade hubs of Kano, Nigeria. It’s been a journey rooted in ground-level hustle, building strong distributor and retailer relationships, and leading teams to consistently hit sales targets. But today, I’m at an exciting turning point—I’m stepping into the world of digital marketing. 


Why Digital Marketing?

Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours on the road, observing retail patterns, strategizing in the field, and executing BTL (Below the Line) activities to boost product visibility. It’s been incredibly rewarding—but I’ve also come to an important realization: the future of sales is digital. Customers are spending more time online. Brands are becoming digital-first. And sales strategies need to evolve accordingly. That’s why I decided to upskill myself in digital marketing—not just as a trend, but as a core capability that complements my existing strengths.

 What I’m Learning

 I’ve begun diving into the fascinating world of digital tools and strategies, currently focusing on:

  • Google Ads & paid media campaigns
  • Social Media Marketing & content planning 
  • Email marketing & automation tools 
  • Marketing analytics & understanding online consumer behavior

 It’s been an eye-opening experience so far—one that’s transforming how I think about customer engagement, brand building, and conversions.

 What excites me most is the synergy between traditional sales and digital marketing. My background in field sales gives me a strong advantage   I understand consumer psychology, distributor dynamics, and how to develop markets from scratch. These real-world insights now serve as a   foundation for interpreting digital metrics, crafting better ad messaging, and planning campaigns that resonate. 

 I’m not starting from zero—I’m building on something solid.
